The European Union: Procedures and Perspectives (20 credits) The module is aimed at students from a variety of
backgrounds and nationalities who are training to become professional
translators or interpreters. It is structured round the institutions, functions
and procedures of the EU, common policies, the Euro, enlargement and the future
of the EU.

The module is aimed at students from a

Principles of Science and Technology (10 credits)
This module deals with essential scientific
concepts and their applications in modern technology, including such issues as:
atoms, nuclei, forces, radioactivity, electromagnetism; chemical reactions,
compounds, nomenclature, pharmaceuticals, cellular structure, genetics,
biochemistry, biotechnology; alternative forms of energy; computers,
electronics, semiconductor theory; environmental science.
Principles of Economics and Finance (10 credits)
This module is intended as an
introduction to the basic concepts of economics and finance, and will cover the
following areas: the economy, inflation, employment, international trade,
financial markets, banking and monetary union.
